Wisconsin report could lead to energy-saving business opportunities
A new report prepared by the Energy Center of Wisconsin could result in the emergence of energy-saving business opportunities in the state.
Created on behalf of the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin, the energy conservation study has suggested a tripling of the state's funding for green initiatives, saying that this would result in savings of more than $900 million (£547 million) on energy costs every year.
According to the report, if the state spends $350 million annually, it would avoid having to create at least 2,200 megawatts of new generation and cut utility greenhouse gas emissions by 1.3 million tons a year by 2018.
Covering residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural sectors, the report's suggestions are good for the state's economy, according to the governor Jim Doyle.
PSC chairperson Eric Callisto added that the study "shows that it is possible to generate economic growth and change the trajectory of our energy use".
"This study showcases the multi-faceted benefits of energy efficiency as a strategy," he concluded.
Real-time energy monitoring products, such as Enigin's Eniscope, greatly aid energy efficiency in commercial and industrial sites allowing well informed decisions on where to save energy.
