Wind energy conservation technologies could generate £70bn for UK
Taking a bold step to invest in energy conservation technologies in offshore wind and wave power alone could help the UK generate up to £70 billion and almost 250,000 jobs, new analysis from the Carbon Trust has shown.
In addition to achieving at least 15 per cent of the total carbon savings required to meet the country's 2050 targets, the move could result in the emergence of many greener living business opportunities.
Speaking while launching the Carbon Trust's Clean Tech Revolution campaign, chief executive Tom Delay stated that the UK needs to lead the world in clean energy innovation to be able to achieve this.
"To reap the significant rewards from their successful development we must prioritise and comprehensively back the technologies that offer the best chance of securing long-term carbon savings, jobs and revenue for Britain," he said.
Commenting, UK Energy Research Centre research director Professor Jim Skea said that it will take "vision and enterprise" to utilise the "unique, once in a generation, opportunity to lead the world in clean low-carbon innovation".
The government set aside £405 million for investment in low carbon industries in the recent Budget.
