Wales sets aside 300m for energy saving programmes
The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) is to invest £300 million in carbon emission reduction initiatives that could result in the creation of energy-saving business opportunities in the nation.
Among the initiatives to be put in place is supporting green energy production and creating new climate change development officers who will work with communities to encourage greener living.
The WAG plans to cut greenhouse gases by three per cent annually from 2011 in devolved areas and to achieve this, funding aimed at supporting micro-generation for businesses and households will be made available.
Other proposals include creating a climate change charter that organisations will be required to sign up to and providing advice and support for businesses to go green.
According to environment, sustainability and housing minister Jane Davidson, who launched the plan, "everyone has a contribution to make to tackling climate change".
"Climate change is not some academic concept, but a real threat to Wales and the world," added Ms Davidson, who also recently used a recording on YouTube to urge Wales to embrace conservation efforts.
