US entrepreneur in energy-saving initiative
A US green-technology entrepreneur has taken a pioneering step that could result in the emergence of energy-saving business opportunities for companies across the nation.
Marc Porat has turned his multimillion-dollar home located in Palo Alto, California, into a green technology showcase as part of his drive to turn buildings into energy-efficient structures, according to Mercury News.
The investor is eager to lead by example when it comes to energy-saving and carbon reduction initiatives and hopes to turn his property into one of the few net-zero energy homes in the US.
"This was created as a research and development project to inspire and teach others what can be done," Mr Porat told the publication during a tour of his property.
"My hope is that throughout the country, this will be the normal way you retrofit houses. The technology and materials we used are the same for new homes too."
Green sector businesses are likely to benefit if the example spurs more businesses and consumers to adopt a similar move, which includes retrofitting domestic, commercial and industrial properties to be carbon neutral and using renewable energy.
