US Energy Distributor Aims to Save Club 40% Energy Spend

The Laurel Boys and Girls Club (LBGC) on the East Coast, are working hard not only to provide recreational and enrichment activities for youths and communities but they are also caring for the planet.

The Club in partnership with their local Enigin Distributor, are launching a program to reduce their energy output and subsequent spending by up to 40%.

Being in receipt of a $80,000 a year utility bill, the LBGC accepted the Enigin supported proposal to work free of charge in assessing the Club’s energy pitfalls and put in a place a program to help them become more efficient and cut costs.

The Club’s Executive Director, Patrick Reed, sent a letter sent earlier this year to the State and local officials, outlining the strain of rising utility costs coming from increased fuel prices.

"Increased utility costs, coupled with recent budget cuts, have created a burden on the club which current funding simply can't relieve," says Reed. "The default response is to raise membership dues, but that isn't a fair or practical solution. What Enigin Plc's local distributor is doing is empowering us with an effective, sustainable solution. We are very optimistic about this program."

The program, known as the EnergyMaps energy-saving system, was designed by Enigin PLC. "EnergyMaps combines cutting-edge technology with personal accountability," The local Enigin installer says: "We're setting up a program that will help the LBGC monitor their energy usage, all the while teaching the club's staff, volunteers and members what they can do to manage it."

The core component of the EnergyMaps program is Enigin Plc’s Eniscope monitor. This will carry out a 24/7 analysis of the Club’s energy consumption and highlight when they are using too much energy.

The initial evaluation has, resulted in identifying 10 additional energy-saving solutions for LBGC. including insulating the buildings attic and switching energy providers.

LBCG's President, Levet Brown, is very enthusiastic about the program. "I am very proud of this project," he says. "We are taking responsibility for the handling of our energy and sending a terrific message to the kids, to the community and to Boys & Girls Clubs across America. It's a win for the Club, and it's a win for the environment."
