UK SMEs adopting energy-saving measures
Green business opportunities in the UK are likely to increase as a growing number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) realise the benefits of energy conservation.
According to the biennial SME environment survey by guidance website NetRegs.gov.uk, more than half (55 per cent) of SMEs have measures in place to reduce their carbon footprint, which is up from 48 per cent in 2007.
Debbie Chatting, strategy manager at NetRegs.gov.uk, commented that "SMEs make up 99 per cent of British business so their cumulative impact is huge", adding that improvement in their green business activities was a good development.
However, she added that the survey "has unearthed a level of denial among some small businesses who still don't acknowledge the harm that they can do to the environment nor recognise the business opportunity it presents to them".
Therefore more awareness about going green needs to be promoted, which could result in more energy-saving business opportunities across the country.
North American consultancy CDW Canada recently said that investing in energy-saving products such as LED lights can help businesses save money and increase profits.
