UK Green industry growth expected
An increasing number of green business opportunities will emerge in coming years as awareness of the importance of acting on climate change increases among consumers.
UK business leaders believe that the cleantech and renewables sector will become two of the most important industries of the economy, according to a survey by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.
Some 43 per cent of business leaders from eight sectors admitted in the poll that cleantech will experience the fastest growth by 2020, while science and technology will expand by 20 per cent.
"Cleantech and renewables will play a huge part in helping the UK economy to grow sustainably, but we need to do more to encourage innovation in these and other high tech sectors," commented science and innovation minister Lord Drayson.
In order to achieve this, the minister and entrepreneur James Caan have launched the iawards, which is the first government-backed awards aimed at recognising achievements in science, innovation and technology.
NetRegs.gov.uk recently revealed that more than half of small business in the UK have invested in conservation initiatives.
