UK green business opportunities could be created by retailer's proposal
A UK retailer has suggested a conservation initiative that could spur retailers in the country into stepping up their energy efficiency programmes and create green business opportunities.
Retailers should be able to demonstrate to shoppers how energy-efficient their operations are, according to Cambridgeshire and Norfolk Budgens and Spar outlets boss Jonathan James, reports Talking Retail.
The independent retailer told the Energy Efficiency forum that score charts monitored by the energy sector should be set up for shops, which would be required to display them on their doors.
Such an initiative could spur the take-up of energy efficient products such as LED lighting, intelligent lighting systems that turn out lights if no one is in the room and real time energy-monitoring equipment, such as Enigin's Eniscope.
The Eniscope greatly aids energy efficiency in commercial and industrial units by allowing owners to access their energy consumption and making well informed decisions on where to save power.
With Eniscope and its related software, retailers can add a screen display to show exactly what energy savings they are making through the various actions they take and the energy saving products they have installed.
