Taiwan Premier sets Energy Efficiency Lead for Business

Taiwan's Premier Wu Den-yih stated today that his government will continue promoting low-carbon businesses and communities, as he urged large companies to put greater efforts into adopting new technologies to reduce carbon emissions.

Wu said that companies with high carbon emissions should consider revamping their infrastructure and reduce their carbon footprint through energy efficiencies.

Wu also noted that within his own Presidential Office they have started to turn off lights during the daytime and they have turned up the temperature on their air-conditioners, all in an effort to reduce carbon emissions and save energy.

"In the past year, the energy-saving measures taken by the government and people helped save more than 7 billion units of electricity -- almost equivalent to one year's electricity consumption for the whole of Tainan County and city, which have a combined population of 1.86 million people" Wu said.
