Tackling climate change could create energy-saving businesses

Tackling climate change could create energy-saving businesses The Met Office has made a strong case about how climate change will impact the UK over the next few decades in their UK Climate Projections 09 report, which could encourage more people to stand up for the environment.

New business opportunities could arise if companies and individuals increase their energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint in a bid to prevent temperatures from soaring to 41 degrees C by 2080.

According to the Met Office, this is what is likely to happen if carbon emissions continue to rise and the high temperatures could also result in more deaths from heat waves.

While announcing the findings, environment secretary Hilary Benn said that it is an undeniable fact that climate change "is the biggest challenge facing the world today", reports the Guardian.

"This landmark scientific evidence shows not only that we need to tackle the causes of climate change, but also that we must deal with the consequences," he added.

According to the Times, "the effectiveness of global co-operation to cut emissions" will directly affect the severity of potential changes to the environment.
