Saving energy 'important for small businesses'
An energy saving expert from California has explained how small businesses can save money and improve their working environment by adopting eco-friendly practices.
Writing for the San Luis Obispo Tribune, green energy coach Bill Tauber says that saving energy in the workplace can be particularly important for owners of smaller firms, as they will often spend much of their time on the premises.
He recommends that small business owners seek advice about going green by speaking to their utility company and purchasing an energy-efficiency guide.
In addition, implementing a number of simple changes in the workplace can make a major difference to a small firm's energy consumption, as well as helping the bottom line.
Mr Tauber recommends "simple things like changing your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps and using occupancy sensors so lights turn on and off when you leave a room automatically".
He adds: "Make sure you use programmable thermostats in your office for air conditioning. These and other energy measures may earn you a rebate by your local utility company, which can help offset your costs to install."
In the UK, pub chain JD Wetherspoon recently posted its best-ever annual results and revealed that energy-saving measures helped the company to cut operational costs.
