'High-performance' energy saving on the agenda in Massachusetts

'High-performance' energy saving on the agenda in Massachusetts

Federal stimulus money will be made available for companies showing a commitment to energy efficiency with "high-performance" buildings in Massachusetts.

The state government is looking to achieve major reductions in energy use by harnessing the latest in green technology for its municipal properties, with $15 million in stimulus funding set aside for this purpose.

According to the Associated Press, energy and environmental affairs secretary Ian Bowles has said that super-efficient building represents the next phase of energy-saving measures in the state and is willing to set ambitious targets.

"We've figured out some of the basics. What we haven't figured out is how to standardise an approach that gets us to a 50 per cent reduction," he told the news agency.

New schools, hospitals, business premises and homes could all be constructed with high-performance energy-saving features under the scheme.

Meanwhile, the California authorities recently announced that $3.1 billion will be devoted to energy-saving projects in the state over the next three years.
