Green businesses to benefit from Kansas energy-saving initiative
Energy-saving business opportunities could sprout up in the US Midwest as a result of a power conservation initiative urging consumers to cut their electricity consumption.
A non profit organisation known as The Climate and Energy Project has launched a competition pitting consumers in six Kansas communities against each other in a contest to see who achieves the greatest energy savings, reports Kansas.com.
Residents are considering investing in energy-saving products such as compact fluorescent light bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs and monitoring their power usage in a bid to secure victory.
The six Kansas communities were selected for the exercise because they had high energy consumption levels, according to the website.
Business opportunities are increasingly emerging globally in the green sector as energy conservation is championed as the ideal way to avert climate change.
Some of these businesses are benefiting from such projects and others sponsored by governments eager to meet global greenhouse gas emissions targets.
