THE Vietnamese National Electricity Development Plan for 2011-2020 has been approved by the Prime Minister and is expected to ensure the country’s power.

The plan is pressed ahead with the 13th Government’s important breakthroughs, including developing the nation’s electricity transformation system and using energy-saving technology.
As part of developing the Vietnamese electricity sector efficient use of energy is vital, along with energy saving.

Under the Plan, the electricity sector needs to give priority to developing renewable energy and increasing the percentage of electricity generation from renewable energy from 3.5 percent in 2010, to 4.5 percent by 2020, and 6 percent by 2030.

The Plan also considers energy-saving and efficiency as a top priority, as it calls for intensified communication to publicise the Law on Energy Efficiency and Conservation to improve energy efficiency, especially in daily industrial and business consumption.

Hoang Quoc Vuong, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, commented that on the need to raise public awareness of the National Target Programme on Energy Efficiency and Conservation, as it aims to save 5-8 percent of the country’s total electricity consumption by 2020 and 8-10 percent by 2030.
