Enigin Update - Viet Nam Businesses to Focus on Energy Efficiency
VIET NAM’S businesses were told the importance of improving energy efficiency to save energy, the environment and maintain economic development at a forum in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday.
"This forum will discuss initiatives and plans to develop green businesses, a friendly environment, energy-savings, and carbon-emissions reductions," said Professor Nguyen Ngoc Tran, head of the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta Development Research Centre, reports Viet Nam News.
Focus was drawn at the forum to corporate participation in raising awareness of energy efficiency, energy saving and green energy.
Nguyen Quang Vinh, the general secretary of the Viet Nam Business Council for Sustainable Development said, "The green race has started between countries to transform to low-carbon economies and to become the leading supplier of resource-efficient technologies and solutions. Viet Nam must not stand outside of this trend."
It was noted that other Asian states had invested in a sustainable future. According to Viet Nam News China has used 21 percent of their $162 billion global investments in energy efficiency and clean energy, while Korea has the largest share (80 per cent) of economic stimulus devoted to the green sector.
It was highlighted during the meeting that energy efficiency helps firms to reduce costs while protecting the environment through reduced CO2 emissions.
Viet Nam News report Phuong Hoang Kim, head of the Energy General Department's science, technology and energy-efficiency department, stating about Viet Nam’s energy demand: "Between 1998 and 2006, energy spending increased three times, with 45 percent belonging to industry. However, efficiency in using energy in heavy industry is very low, with 75 percent of plants wasting energy."
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank, released figures this week on the current energy usage and the energy saving potential across the cement, iron and textile sectors. The IFC wishes to now promote greater energy efficiency, renewable energy, and cleaner production methods, along with awareness through the Viet Nam Energy Efficiency and Cleaner Production (EECP) programme.
The programme aims to reduce emissions and improve the use of natural resources by increasing available financing for sustainable energy investments, with selected banks slated to build their sustainable energy portfolios and related financing products.
The EECP will aid businesses and industries that are looking to upgrade energy inefficient production systems and introducing new energy efficient technologies. These energy efficiency improvement will help enterprises reduce costs while increasing productivity and environmental performance.
Locally based Enigin Distributors provide cutting edge energy efficiency technology and solutions from Enigin, that substantially reduced energy demand, emissions and utility costs.
