Enigin Update - Uganda Calls for Energy Efficiency

LAST month Uganda held its annual energy efficiency week highlighting to the public and private sectors the benefits they can receive when using energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies, which will promote efficient use of energy in all sectors of the economy throughout the country.

Energy State Minister Eng Simon D’Ujanga said at the launch, that using energy efficiently is the cheapest source of additional electricity to meet the growing demand for energy.

“Generating additional electricity from thermal power plants is very expensive, thus energy efficiency makes sense today than it has ever done before,” Eng D’Ujanga said.

Eng D’Ujanga said the theme used for the energy efficiency week is in line with government’s objectives of planned increase in electricity capacity, the access to modern energy services and technologies and promotion of efficient energy use.

He called upon Ugandans to make maximum use of the available electricity by installing and using energy efficient technologies.

Agencies and companies, including the government, under the ministry of Energy and Mineral development, World Bank, the Umeme energy distribution company, are giving more attention to effective energy technologies.

Promoting efficient energy practises in the 21st century when resources are scarce, saving energy saves money, which can then be used for other necessities and the saved energy is then available for other users, reducing load shedding.

“It is cheaper to save a unit of electricity than to generate it by other means,” Eng D’Ujanga said.

High energy consumption and usage poses a threat to a country’s growth prospects. Therefore as many countries, like Uganda, are introducing new guidelines on energy use for the business sector, the government and all organisations.

Enigin Distributors around the world are equipped with the ideal solutions to help businesses and agencies to become energy efficient and reach energy saving targets set by governments.
