Enigin Update - Surrounded by Fossil Fuels but Sharjah Suffers Blackouts
THE Arab emirate of Sharjah is experiencing energy shortages for the second time in two years, costing businesses dearly.
This may not seem to be too bad compared to many nations and regions, as we have reported recently Pakistan have been suffering along with many in east Asia, but these shortages in Sharjah in the Middle East, which is so rich in fossil fuel energy sources and in an area perfect for solar power generation.
Hence it is amazing to realise that Sharjah is suffering from lack of power, but this is not due to an under capacity of power generation, the reason many developing countries suffer, but due to a lack of natural gas, causing the shut down of generation services and forcing the rolling black outs.
The Sharjah generators can be switched to diesel use, but this has been resisted as diesel costs three times as much as natural gas. Solar power would be another obvious solution, but again has been slow to be installed due to the relative cost of panels, particularly compared to the cheapness of the fossil fuels surrounding the UAE.
Businesses trying to offset the blackouts are being forced to invest in their own generators or to become energy efficient and hence reduce the demand on the stretched grid system. Action needs to be taken now before the situation escalates and Sharjah businesses suffer greater financial loss.
Enigin Distributors in the UAE can help businesses to become energy efficient, saving energy and money, whether using the grid or their own generators.
