Enigin Update - SMEs Struggle with Energy Efficiency
ENERGY Efficiency expert Professor Ross King has suggested that SMEs struggle to become more energy efficient.
Professor King, the co-founder and director of the UK based Centre for Sustainable Environmental Management - Brunel Management Programme, said that small to medium sized businesses or enterprises (SMEs) struggle for enough funds to implement energy efficiency, while larger companies and corporations generally have environmental managers to pursue energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.
"Some of these people are run off their feet just trying to keep their business alive," King explained.
"The difference between public sector and private sector at the smallest end has to do with the fact that the smallest organisations feel overwhelmed by what it takes just to keep a business running these days."
According to a report of those participating on the UK’s Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme by the Cambridge Network, more public sector organisations are classed as leaders in sustainability than private companies.
King reasons that private companies do not feel they can "engage in something that doesn't involve keeping their business alive."
