Enigin Update - Singapore's new Act to Make Industry Manage Energy Use
THE government of Singapore is looking at energy management practices for companies in their country.
Dr Amy Khor , Senior Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR), stated at a two day National Sustainability Conference that her ministry introducing an Energy Conservation Act, propose to come into force in 2013.
This new Act will set minimum energy management requirements for large industrial energy users.
Dr Khor explained that companies consuming 15 GWh or more energy annually must appoint an energy manager.
They will also have to monitor and report their energy use to the National Environment Agency (NEA) as well as develop and submit energy efficiency improvement plans.
Dr Khor added that experience globally shows that implementing energy management programmes is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve energy efficiency, with companies reporting at least 10 to 15 per cent drop in consumption.
Enigin's Eniscope is the perfect solution for businesses, providing real-time energy management data with easy to understand graphical energy use information, allowing for precise energy management.
Dr Khor said: "Sustainable development is a key priority for Singapore because it paves the way for a cleaner, greener environment.
"With a mere 710 sq km of land size, every part of this island is precious and a resource, we need to safeguard for future generations. We have set goals under the Sustainable Singapore Blueprint that will help Singapore continue to grow and prosper but in a responsible manner.
"To achieve these goals, it is imperative that we receive full support from the business community, and indeed from each and everyone in Singapore."
The Conference was organised by Energy Efficiency National Partnership (EENP) scheme, which will help firms make the transition from wasteful energy practices to controlled energy management and efficiency.
Pharmaceutical and health-care company Glaxo- SmithKline (GSK) Singapore have benefited from EENP’s efforts in conserving energy.
The firm has set up an energy-monitoring system that helps it to identify areas in its office building plus various processing areas that use a lot of energy, enabling them to then work reduce energy consumption in those areas through the wise use of strategies and energy saving technology.
Enigin Distributors have the perfect energy-monitoring system and the follow up technology to help companies to fulfill governmental requirements but also make major financial savings through reduction in energy use.
