Enigin Update - Scottish Government Building's Poor Energy Performance
THE Scottish Government has been accused of failing to set an example on energy efficiency after its buildings fell well short of performance targets.
Two of the 18 largest government buildings have the worst ratings possible, and not one building achieved top marks. Energy Performance Certificates are rated A to G, with A being the most energy efficient.
The Press Association (PA) report on figures released by the Liberal Democrats, that reveal that 71 percent of Scottish Government buildings floor space, in 6 out of 18 larger properties, are rated only F or G, and none eaching the top level A.
Liam McArthur, Liberal Democrat energy spokesman, told PA: "These figures show that the Government has failed to get a grip of energy efficiency in its own buildings. They talk the talk on energy efficiency but aren't doing enough to walk the walk.
"It's disappointing that none of the Government's larger buildings achieve a top rating energy certificate. It's nothing short of scandalous, however, that most of the buildings received the two lowest rated certificates.
"This is not the first time Ministers have been warned about their poor performance on this issue. Despite that, these ratings have hardly changed in over a year. This is not good enough and sends entirely the wrong message to households and businesses about the importance of taking energy efficiency seriously."
Enigin Distributors in Scotland can help the government to improve the energy efficiency of their properties by utilising programmes and systems from Enigin - reducing energy demand, emissions and costs.
