Enigin Update - Public Library sets Example in Energy Saving
BOISE Public Library, U.S., yesterday received an Idaho Power incentive cheque of $66,992 for energy-efficient upgrades to the Main Library lighting system while demonstrating the savings from energy efficiency.
The Idaho Statesman reports the story of Idaho's State Capital's Public Library and it details the substantial savings which are available to public facilities and businesses through upgrading to energy efficient technologies and products.
The Statesman reported that the incentive money was awarded as part of Idaho Power's Easy Upgrades program, with Boise Mayor David Bieter stating:.
"These energy-efficiency upgrades will save taxpayer dollars and serve as an example for how local businesses can reduce their energy consumption by investing in energy-saving retrofits,"
The Library installed a new lighting system and they expect to save $32,000 annually on their energy costs, based on today's rates, and to reduce electrical usage by approximately 575,000 kilowatt hours per year.
The total costs for the project are estimated to be around $95,703, but the Library expects the project to pay for itself before the end of 2011.
Expect to hear further energy saving success stories from the North West state as Idaho Power's Easy Upgrades program offers incentives of up to $100,000 per year for simple energy-saving upgrades to existing commercial buildings. Eligible projects include lighting, air conditioning, refrigeration and other building electrical systems.
