Enigin Update - Programme to Fund Energy Efficiency Upgrades
THE U.S. state of Missouri’s capital city, Jefferson City, claims to be the states first community to provide aid for businesses and residents to improve their energy efficiency.
Jefferson City officials have formed a Clean Energy Development Board that will provide businesses and private property owners funding through municipal bonds for projects that make buildings more energy-efficient or use renewable energy.
Missouri enacted a law last year authorising such government programmes as the Property Assessed Clean Energy Act, which will be used by the new Board.
Under the Act cities can pay the upfront costs of energy efficiency projects for buildings within their jurisdiction. The business and residential property owners then have up to 20 years to repay the cities through a special property tax assessment.
Enigin Distributors welcome such funding as they help businesses with energy efficiency upgrades in their facilities using technology from Enigin, leading to reduced energy demand, energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
