Enigin Update - Orlando finds Energy Efficient Treasures

THE CITY of Orlando in Florida set a dedicated team the task of looking for energy savings and efficiencies at Orlando’s 70 plus-year old Citrus Bowl Stadium and soon came up with substantial energy and hence financial savings.

Searching for energy savings surrounding and during the annual Florida Classic American football game last month, the team of employees of the city, General Electric (GE) and the Environmental Defence Fund (EDF) found plenty to report, during what has been called an ecomagination Treasure Hunt.

Looking for energy efficiency 'treasures' took the team two and half days altogether and they were able to come up with 25 projects, which, if fully implemented, will save 50 percent of the stadium’s energy costs.

The projects range from simple changes such as switching off lights in the parking lots to installing remote programmable systems. The estimated $365,000 cost of implementation and technology would be recouped in just over two years.

So the question has to be raised: “If energy efficiency offers a guaranteed ROI, why don’t more cities, companies and any other organisations just do it?”

Often because finding wasted energy takes time and leadership and you have to deal with internal challenges that people often try to avoid, including questioning the way things have always been done.

Energy efficiency is a no-brainer which often requires a little 'engaging of the brain' to begin and start saving energy and money, as has proved the case for Orlando.

Enigin Distributors in Florida are already helping the public and private sectors to save energy through using energy saving technology from Enigin, quickly seeing a return on any investment through reduced energy bills.
