Enigin Update - New Zealand Release Strategies for Energy and Energy Efficiency

NEW Zealand’s acting Minister of Energy and Resources, Hekia Parata, released the New Zealand Energy Strategy and the New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy today promising energy for the future.

Ms Parata said: “New Zealand is blessed with an abundance of energy resources. Our Government's goal is to make the most of all the assets we have - hydro, wind, geothermal, oil, gas and minerals.

"We want to use those resources responsibly to secure our energy future and to lift our standard of living. That is why the Government is taking a balanced approach to building a sustainable energy and resources future."

As far as renewable energy is concerned, New Zealand is second highest amongst the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries, with just Iceland ahead of them.
"Renewables and energy efficiency are a big part of our energy picture,'' added Parata.

"Renewables made up 79 per cent of our total electricity generation in the March 2011 quarter. New Zealand has a target of 90 per cent of electricity generation to be from renewable sources by 2025, and we are well on our way to achieving that.'

To gain the best from renewables and more traditional forms of power generation energy efficiency also needs addressing, to make the best use of the energy available through reducing waste - the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy will address this issue.

Enigin Distributors in the region enable businesses and organisations to gain control of their energy use, as well as monitoring how much energy they are generation from renewables if they have any such capacity, all in real-time using Enigin plc's Eniscope system - leading to less waste and improved energy efficiency.
