Enigin Update - Need for a Building a Minute Energy Efficiency Retrofit

THE UK Energy Saving Trust has published the results from research which shows the huge energy efficiency challenge facing the country’s buildings.

The research reveals that for every minute, from now until 2050, at least one building will need a green renovation if the UK is to achieve its emissions targets.

Business Green reports that the research, by the Centre for Low Carbon Futures and the Energy Saving Trust, explains that as buildings account for 45 percent of the UK’s CO2 emissions and with about 70 percent of existing buildings expected to be still standing in 2050 the work required will be substantial.

The research argues that building energy efficiency improvements need to be speeded up for the country to achieve the 80 percent reduction in emissions by 2050, although the report accepts that governmental policies, (Green Deal, Carbon Reduction Commitment and the Renewable Heat Incentive) have encouraged some businesses to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings.

Jon Price, director of the Centre for Low Carbon Futures, said: "Despite the best efforts to encourage....industry to adopt low carbon solutions through regulation and incentive schemes, they are not achieving the step changes required."

According to Price the variety of the types of buildings in the UK and a lack of knowledge about energy performance means that energy efficiency upgrades cannot be a simple "one size fits all".

Enigin Distributors in the UK have the ideal solutions from Enigin for businesses and organisations, for simple yet highly effective energy efficiency upgrades that with the complete EnergyMaps programme also provides effective real-time feed back of energy use and costs - leading to behavioural change that provides savings in enegry costs and reductions in CO2 remissions.
