Enigin Update - More Energy Efficiency Action Needed from Philippines' Government
EXPERTS are calling for the Philippines’ government to incentivise and promote energy efficiency to reduce consumption particularly as cleaner energy is being developed.
Philippines’ BusinessWorld Online reports Jose Bienvenido Manuel M. Biona, Research Scientist of De La Salle University commenting at a briefing: "We should look at energy efficiency while renewable energy is not fully developed yet. We also have to know how to integrate renewable energy into the grid.”
Biona explained that practicing energy efficient methods would help save at a minimum of 75-megawatts of energy, adding that using cleaner energy and consuming less will lead to reduced greenhouse gasses emissions, even with a growing economy, which brings increases in emissions.
Philippines’ Energy department is promoting energy efficiency with the Philippine Energy Efficiency Project (PEEP), partly funded by the Asian Development Bank.
The PEEP funding of P31.1 million ($716,575) is financing the energy efficiency upgrading of government buildings, the energy efficiency improvement of street lights, and distribution of energy efficient light bulbs.
BusinessWorld Online also quotes Philippe Reveilhac, President of Schneider Electric Philippines, who calls for more governmental pressure to improve energy efficiency: "We have to push for more energy efficient practices. One of the ways could be providing tax exemptions for companies that have enacted energy efficiency measures."
Enigin Distributors throughout the Philippines are aiding government and businesses to improve the energy efficiency in their buildings and facilities by turning to Enigin systems and programmes, such as EnergyMaps, the complete solution for improving energy efficiency.
