Enigin Update - London's Streets to be Paved with Green

THE MAYOR of London has confirmed the continuation of key energy efficiency programmes supported by £116.5 million from the London Development Agency (LDA) and other organisations are to go ahead.

As a result of accessing substantial levels of funding from a spread of funding sources (including private sector, London Green Fund and European programmes), Boris Johnson, the Mayor and the London Development Agency (LDA)'s have raised the total funding to £116.5 million ($189.25 million).

Some of the money is already allocated for carbon reduction projects, such as £16.5 million ($26.9 million), which is now confirmed as coming from the London Development Agency for the next financial year, this money comes via the European Regional Development Fund and the European Commission.

Johnson’s aim is for London to become the world leading low carbon capital by 2025, and hence attracting a predicted £40 billion ($65.26 billion) of investment and creating an estimated 200,000 jobs. London also looks to ensure its competitiveness as a leading global city for the 21st century.

Johnson commented: "In taking a canny approach to the use of public funds, I can confirm my continued support for a raft of effective carbon cutting programmes. As a result of this activity, London is being transformed into a greener, cleaner world-leading low carbon city with new jobs and enterprises."
