Enigin Update - Indian State Government sets Example in Energy Saving

THE Maharashtra government, a state government in Western India with Mumbai as its capital, has decided to set an energy efficiency example by making it mandatory for all government departments, local self-government bodies and organisation receiving government grants to use energy saving technology.

Chief Secretary J P Dange, issued a communication stating that for 2010 the government set a target of 20 per cent for energy conservation, but with the use of new technology they should be able to save 30 per cent.

“Power consumption in India for the increase in one unit of GDP is 3.7 times that of Japan, 1.55 times that of the US and 1.47 times that of Asian standards. This means we have plenty of scope for energy conservation,” Dange said, adding that although energy efficiency technology can be expensive they produce financially and environmentally long-term benefits.

The directives came into force on June 1, with the Chief Secretary has also asked all department heads to send a compliance certificate ensuring that the energy saving guidelines are followed.

Many countries are facing increased energy costs and demands for power supplies, placing financial constraints on stretched economies and resources. Becoming energy efficient is the cheapest and easiest way for governments to save money and produce more energy capacity.

Enigin Distributors in the region can help local and state governments and agencies to become energy efficient with a range of energy saving solutions second to none along with real-time energy monitoring to catalogue exactly what is being saved and where.
