Enigin Update - Indian Development Agency Tightens Energy Building Code

THE Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in north India is going to enforce the countries Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), which specifies the energy performance requirements for all commercial buildings that are constructed in India, to reduce energy use by commerce in the Haryana region.

A HUDA spokesman said the ECBC will also be applied to urban development to reduce energy waste and focus on energy efficiency.

The Development Authorities harder line follows the example set by the Indian central governments decision to enforce the ECBC through the national and state government offices and concerns.

The ECBC applies to all commercial buildings and complexes connected to a 500kw load or more, or if contracted for a demand of 600kva and above.

The HUDA will now require developers and businesses submitting building plans that come under the ECBC target figures to be certified by the Indian Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) before submitting their drawing plans to the Authority for approval.

India's economy and infrastructure has been growing so fast that there has been a danger that they could out run their power generation capacity, hence energy efficiency is vital, to reduce demand for power and the chance of brown or black outs.

Enigin Distributors in the country can help Indian businesses and developers with energy efficiency products for new builds and retrofits into commercial and industrial buildings - using Enigin's real-time energy management system Eniscope is a huge first step to complying with governmental requirements and saving money at the same time.
