Enigin Update - India Sets Energy Efficiency Targets for Industry
INDIA is about to implement a nationwide roll out of a new scheme imposing an energy efficiency target for industry.
The Indian government is planning a sector-wise energy efficiency along with unit-wise consumption targets for nine notified sectors by early 2011.
Under the new Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) proposal, over 700 industrial units across selected sectors nationwide, will be set targets for reducing their energy consumption.
Those managing to better their targets will be able to sell energy saving credits to those failing to achieve the required cuts.

The Indian government has been talking to visiting British Minsters this week about similar mechanisms for industrial users in the UK.
The Power Minister, Mr Sushilkumar Shinde, met the visiting Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change of the UK, Mr Greg Barker, on Thursday, discussed the issue of efficiency targets and considered specific areas where bilateral collaboration is possible.
