Enigin Update - India's Power Minister Calls for Vigorous and Focused Awareness on Energy
INDIA'S Union Power Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde today stressed the need for a vigorous and focussed national awareness campaign to improve energy efficiency.
Inaugurating a National Seminar on Energy Efficiency and Conservation in New Delhi, he said the reason for the seminar was to engage all stakeholders and seek their inputs in the process of energy saving.
According to Shinde, demand for energy in India will keep increasing because of the accelerated industrialization, urbanization and India’s emerging economy.
Consequently, energy efficiency across all sectors of the economy has become essential in separating growth in energy demand from economic growth, while ensuring that India’s energy demands are managed efficiently.
Enigin Distribuotrs across the sub-continent have the solutions for both the private and public sectors to become energy efficient and save moeny and energy.
Delivering the inaugural address, Shinde stated:
“The need of the hour is to have a more vigorous and focused national awareness campaign to meet the desired objective of reducing the energy intensity of the country. The Government of India has put in place an overarching legal, regulatory and policy framework to promote market based energy efficiency in the Indian economy.”
In the keynote address, Bharatsinh Solanki, Minister of State for Power, said:
“Energy efficiency has been brought to the centre-stage of the power sector during the last four years. The tremendous potential that energy efficiency has for saving power can bridge the gap between demand and supply.
“This potential needs to be harnessed and the Ministry of Power is pursuing this goal with all earnestness. All of us have a responsibility to contribute to energy efficiency efforts.
“Energy efficiency is the focal point of our efforts to enhance energy security and the need of the hour is to have a more vigorous and focused national awareness campaign to meet the desired objective of reducing the energy intensity of the country.”
