Enigin Update - India's CII and BEE promote Energy Efficiency for Industry

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has partnered with the Indian Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) to enhance competitiveness through improving industries energy efficiency.

With the aim to promote energy efficient practices, the two organisations arranged Workshops on Enhancing Competitiveness through Energy Efficiency at various industrial locations in the northern Indian states.

Renowned Experts from Industry, Government agencies & Academia briefed the participants on various initiatives, schemes & technologies and new initiatives that are available or being adopted by industries for Energy conservation.

Welcoming all to the Inaugural Session, Mr Atul P Renavikar, Chairman, CII Kumaon Zone and Plant Head, Tata Motors stressed the urgent need for the industry to start adopting energy efficient technologies in the wake of ever increasing gap between demand & supply of energy sources. He expressed that the industrial sector is the single largest consumer of commercial energy, accounting for over 52 percent of the total energy consumed. Energy is also a major cost input in manufacturing industries. He opined that in a competitive market scenario, where cost reduction is the prime concern, energy conservation is of paramount importance for every manufacturer.

Dr Vinay Kumar Pathak, Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Open University, was the Chief Guest at the workshop, and addressed the gathering, expressing that the current need is to include energy conservation in the education system. He stressed that exploitation of natural resources for fulfilling the energy demand is overdone and the balance needs to be maintained. He further shared that lack of awareness on conservation is the root cause of increased demand of energy and exploitation of natural resources; therefore more programmes should be organised from time to time.

Mr S N Sharma, DGM Manufacturing, TATA Motors, Pantnagar spoke at the inaugural session and focused on Energy Conservation in manufacturing units. Sharma said that the manufacturing sector can achieve substantial savings by adopting energy efficient methods. The main reasons for high consumption of energy are obsolete technology, lower capacity utilisation, casual monitoring of energy consumption, lower automation, low quality of raw material and poor operating and maintenance practices.

In line with this workshop, Enigin Distributors in India are helping industries to improve their energy efficiency through utilising energy saving technology and solutions from Enigin - providing intelligent control of electrical equipment, as well as providing real-time monitoring and management of energy use through Enigin plc's Eniscope Real-time and analytics.
