Enigin Update - Funds and Awards for Energy Efficiency in Singapore

A NEW award for energy efficiency and extra funds were announced at the start of the first National Energy Efficiency Conference (NEEC) held in Singapore.

Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, announced that S$22.8 million (US$18.29 million) will be made available over the next two years via the Grant for Energy Efficient Technologies (GREET) scheme, which is deigned to help Singapore’s businesses defray the cost of purchasing such technologies.

One of six companies to receive the inaugural Energy Efficiency National Partnership (EENP) Award is GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). The pharmaceutical company said it has its onsite energy monitoring system to thank for achieving some S$12.5 million (US$10.03 million) in energy savings between 2002 and the end of 2010.

Yeo Yee Pang, Glaxo Wellcome Manufacturing engineering manager, said regarding onsire monitoring: "This system to collect energy use on site, [mens] we can understand where are all the high energy use (and in) which area. We can also identify the energy waste and from there, we can trigger a lot of projects and initiatives and from there, we are able to save the energy".

The EENP programme is part of the Singapore Sustainable Development Blueprint, launched in April 2010, aimed at promoting sustained energy efficiency improvements across Singapore’s industries.

The award falls into three categories: Excellence in Energy Management, Best Practices and Outstanding Energy Managers of the Year.

GSK won their award for Excellence in Energy Management, alongside Pfizer Asia Pacific, who linked employee performances to energy efficiency improvements.

In the public sector, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) have been awarded the "Best Public Sector Agency in Energy Management" Commendation, recognising their outstanding performance and commitment to energy management.

Enigin provide leading edge energy management and monitoring through Eniscope Real-time and Analytics, along with other high quality energy saving technologies to help both the public and private sectors achieve substantial energy and financial savings. Enigin Plc's energy efficiency solutions are available globally through the Enigin Distributor network.
