Enigin Update - Forecast of Increased Energy Consumption for the U.S.
DESPITE the recent marked improvements in the energy efficiency of equipment, devices, machinery and transport the U.S. is expected to continue using evermore power.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) predict that energy consumption will continue to rise in the commercial, industrial, residential and transportation sectors as the U.S. population set to increase to over 390 million people in 2035 along with increased economic.
The EIA, the statistical and analytical agency of the U.S. Energy Department, predicts that the nations consumption will change dramatically from 2009 to 2035.
Total usage will rise by an average rate of 0.7 percent per year with the fastest increases in the commercial sector - 1.1 percent, while the industrial sector will increase 0.9 percent, and residential energy consumption by only 0.3 percent.
These figures may appear to be low, but in real terms the figures mean that the annual U.S. energy consumption in 2035 will exceed the 2009 levels by 14.05 quadrillion Btu (a quadrillion = one thousand million million), this is equal to all the energy consumed by Canada in 2008. To emphasise: this is just the increase over the 2009 levels!
This makes the improvement of energy efficiency across the private and public sectors of the U.S. economy even more important as the EIA also report of increasing energy prices.
