Enigin Update - Filipino Government Offices Ordered to make Energy Savings

THE Philippine’s Department of Energy (DOE) is to implement two administrative orders that mandate a 10 percent reduction in monthly electricity consumption in all government agencies and facilities.

The DOE statement revealed: “The current global energy situation makes it more imperative for government to lead in managing energy use to demonstrate its commitment to effect significant reduction in energy expenditures.”

The DOE statement came after the Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr. urged government agencies to put in place energy efficiency measures.

The administrative orders were enacted through the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP), aimed at all government departments, government-owned and -controlled corporations, state colleges and universities, hospitals and other sectors of the government.

Over the past five years the GEMP has already achieved savings of P1.4 billion ($32.25 million) in electricity consumption. The DOE also conducted spot checks at 719 government facilities, with the issuing of certificates of energy/monetary savings being issued to 62 government agencies.

For this year, the DOE also require online submission of monthly energy consumption from government agencies.

The DOE further explained: “The GEMP and other parallel energy conservation measures in the government will become important as we are facing times where our supply is threatened.”

Enigin Distributors in the Philippine's have been helping local government agencies to already save energy and related costs through installing technology from Enigin.
