Enigin Update - Fiji Calls for Energy Efficiency

THE FIJI Electricity Authority (FEA) has suffered from an increase in unbudgeted expenditure for fuel leading them to appeal for energy efficiency to save costs for suppliers and consumers.

Authority chief executive Hasmukh Patel says they have tightened operations and reduced costs where possible, which has helped them to save about $5.7 million over the past 10 months.

Patel is once again urging consumers, particularly in the higher consuming industrial and commercial sector, to conserve energy and consider investing in energy efficient lighting systems and energy saving technology to control energy demand.

Fiji is suffering from escalating global fuel prices and the increased cost of electricity, hence the call for energy efficiency measures across the Melanesia island nation.

Patel said energy efficiency has the advantage of reduced electricity bills for consumers while reducing the nations fuel import bill and Fiji’s carbon footprint.

"In the face of escalating global fuel prices and the increased cost of electricity, we wish to reiterate and make a plea to our valued consumers on the need to be more vigilant with their consumption patterns and to re-look at ways of reducing electricity consumption," he said.

Enigin Distributors have the technology to help governments and the private sector to reduce energy consumption by managing energy use while maintaining services and production.

Using Enigin PLC's Eniscope energy use can be seen and then acted upon in real time, with analytical data providing patterns of use allowing for the best implementation of other energy saving technology to control, use and operate energy within any work place.
