Enigin Update - Farms to Benefit from new Initiative

US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced an inniative to help US farmers become more energy efficient, with funding becoming available for energy audits to help save energy and money through efficiencies.

Vilsack admitted: "Reducing energy use on America's farms and ranches will not only help our agricultural producers become more profitable, but also help the United States become more energy independent,

"Through this initiative, producers will be able to receive individual on-farm energy audit evaluations and assistance with implementation of energy conservation and efficiency measures."

During 2010 around 1000 energy audits will be conducted across the country, funded by $2 million from the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). The energy audits will be specific to each farm and focus on the main energy uses such as milk cooling, heating and cooling of livestock, irrigation pumping and grain drying etc.

Initially the energy audits will highlight low and no-cost energy improvements but longer term energy management plans will be developed and cost effective implementation of controls and technologies will be applied.

Enigin Distributors have already helped many in the agricultural industry, from farms through to market gardens.
