Enigin Update - Energy Grants for Michigan Farmers and Rural Businesses
MICHIGAN, U.S., farmers and small businesses will receive up to $20,000 in grants to implement energy efficiency and renewable energy.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has made the $503,848 in grants available in concert with President Obama’s rural economic bus tour in the U.S. Midwest, to 34 farmers and enterprises.
U.S. Senator Carl Levin said regarding the grants: “These rural farmers and small business owners are showing how they can lead the way in improving our energy efficiency, saving them thousands of dollars in energy costs each year.
“These federal dollars will make it easier for businesses and farms to invest in these technologies, which will help our nation meet its goal of reducing our dependence on foreign fuels.”
Through implementing energy efficiency rural and agricultural businesses can grow their businesses, protecting their bottom lines and increasing their competitiveness.
Senator Debbie Stabenow stated: “As Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I’m focused on encouraging small business growth and giving our rural business leaders the tools they need to expand, profit and create more jobs.”
The grants are provided via the Rural Energy for America Programme, part of the U.S. 2008 Farm Bill, with the grants funding up to 25 percent of an energy efficient and renewable project’s total cost.
