Enigin Update - Energy Efficient Upgrades in Commercial Properties a Challenge
ENERGY efficient upgrades for the UK’s commercial properties is going to be difficult, warns the head of climate change at Manchester City Council.
Speaking at the Retrofit Salford 2011 event, Michael O'Doherty explained adding energy efficiency improvements to commercial properties is more of a challenge than making improvements to residential buildings.
He said that retrofitting or upgrading is where commerce, industry and the public sector must focus their attention to be able to achieve an increase in energy-efficient properties across the UK.
As Manchester council's head of climate change for buildings and energy, he stated: "The real challenge....is going to be the commercial sector. When tenants understand the benefits and are prepared to pay a premium for retrofitted, highly energy-efficient buildings, that is when the market will move."
O'Doherty admitted that making existing buildings more environmentally friendly is something that local authorities and businesses must "do more to push with".
Enigin Plc have cutting edge energy efficiency solutions that are ideal for upgrading a facility to become energy efficient and allow control of energy use by decision makers and managers.
From real-time energy monitoring through to intelligent lighting management, Enigin Distributors across the UK, and the globe, have solutions to aid the private and public sectors to reduce energy demand and costs.
In his speech O’Doherty referred to last month’s report from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors which revealed that what had become traditional building tactics must be abandoned in favour of cost-effective and sustainable designs.
