Enigin Update - Energy Efficiency Wins from World's Troubles

IT seems wrong to try and draw positives from Japan’s terrible disaster in March this year, but energy efficiency companies are winners according to one Asset Management CEO.

Bloomberg report that Ian Simm, Impax Asset Management Group Plc Chief Executive Officer, stated that energy-efficiency companies are the “stand-out” winners after Japan’s atomic-power disaster, resulting from the earthquake and tsunami on the March 11.

The disaster allied with a worldwide rise in oil prices, alongside political unrest in middle eastern oil producing countries and Germany’s much publicised withdrawal from nuclear energy after the Fukushima Dai-Ichi reactor’s meltdown, the interest in energy efficiency has intensified, Simm told bloomberg.com in a telephone interview today.

Bloomberg quote Simm as saying: “Energy efficiency is probably the stand-out winner. The payback periods on investments reduce significantly as the oil price goes up. The logic is that everybody has an incentive to save money when oil is over $100 a barrel.”

Germany’s decision on Monday to shut its nuclear-power plants by 2022, will also boost the importance of energy efficiency in Europe’s biggest economy, providing plenty on business opportunities for the energy efficiency industry.

"Taking a large percentage of baseload power off the German system within 10 years is going to require quite a significant policy change to reduce energy consumption,’’ Simm told Bloomberg. “The biggest beneficiary in the short term will be energy efficiency."

Not that anyone would wish to benefit from such terrible disasters as Japan suffered in March, but a rethink on how we use energy is a positive to come from such terrible events.

Enigin Distributors are certainly seeing increased interest and awareness in energy efficiency from both the public and private sectors, as they look to control their energy spend and reduce the environmental impact of their companies and organisations.

Enigin plc's range of energy efficiency solutions and leading edge technology is helping many decision makers to save money, energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
