Enigin Update - Energy Efficiency Vital for Pakistani

PAKISTAN continues to face an acute energy crisis which is hitting their economy, and the government needs to promote energy efficiency programmes - according Mahfooz Elahi.

Mahfooz Elahi is president of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and his remarks were reported by Pakistan’s Daily Times. The claim is also serious energy conservation and efficiency programmes will significantly mitigate the adverse effects of ongoing energy crisis for industries.

Elahi added that Pakistan’s steel industry was energy intensive and hence vulnerable to a higher rate of energy losses, resulting in higher energy costs and productivity losses. This was a sector where there is a great need for improved energy efficiency programmes and in identifying suitable energy saving measures which would also increase competitiveness.

Elahi praised the efforts of Khawaja Muhammad Yousuf, the CEO of the National Productivity Organisation (NPO) , for their efforts in promoting energy efficiency practices in some industrial areas.

Van De Raadt, an Energy Expert from the Netherlands who met with Elahi, stated that it has become essential to look for energy saving measures in manufacturing to enhance productivity.
