Enigin Update - Energy Efficiency Pledge by South African Government and Business
SOUTH AFRICA’S Department of Energy has signed an Energy Efficiency Leadership Network Pledge along with Business Unity SA (BUSA) and the National Business Initiative (NBI).
The Pledge aims to improve energy efficiency in South Africa, with the signatories developing an energy efficiency road map, the required energy efficiency targets, work with stakeholders on issues of energy efficiency and report on their efforts and progress.
The involved parties also pledged to build and develop the skill set needed to implement energy efficiency programmes and the needed behavioural changes across the country’s businesses and government.
Dipuo Peters, South Africa’s Energy Minister. commented that the pledge strengthens the relationship between business and the government, "This agreement is an ace, and it could become aces because it can become a social responsibility and an initiative to help our people in South Africa."
Joanne Yawitch, NBI CEO, added that business is serious about climate change, stating: "South African business is doing something about it. We see energy efficiency as a holistic and sustainable approach. By signing this Energy Efficiency Pledge, business is standing together with government to help cement that intent and make this a reality."
As reported earlier this week on these pages, the country’s commerce and industry face substantial and varied energy challenges from increasing energy prices, reduced energy security and the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The importance and value of energy efficiency is recognised by business and government as a vital element in changing South Africa's energy economy.
South African based Enigin Distributors can help businesses and governments to meet this pledge by directing people towards the solutions from Enigin, which improve energy efficiency, saving money and reducing emissions.
