Enigin Update - Energy Efficiency and Low Carbon to Benefit SMEs

THE CONFEDERATION of British Industry (CBI) is urging small to medium-sized businesses to act on green opportunities in their businesses through energy efficiency and low carbon products.

The CBI and Lloyds Banking Group, issued a joint statement today calling for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to improve their energy efficiency and develop low carbon products and services ahead of a major conference on climate change the two organisations are due to hold in London.

The conference will address how tackling climate change will aid to put the UK on a path to economic recovery, with attention on SMEs, which make up the majority of businesses in the UK and account for half of its turnover.

The CBI sees SMEs as key in securing the UK a world leading position in the global market for energy efficiency and low carbon goods and services.

"SMEs will be the engine of the UK’s economic recovery and the low carbon sector presents many exciting new opportunities for growth," said Dr Neil Bentley, CBI director for Business Environment.

The CBI summit this Wednesday entitled 'Tackling Climate Change In A New Economy: Is Your Business Ready?’ will bring together businesses, banks and politicians to explore how moving to a low carbon economy will foster economic growth across all sectors from accounting to farming.

Chris Huhne, the UK’s Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change will be one of the main speakers along with Richard Lambert, the CBI’s director-general and Indian Minister of Environment and Forests, Shri Jairam Ramesh

Lloyds Banking Group, has one million SME customers and claims to have already helped a number of its business clients invest in low carbon projects.

"We want our clients to succeed in the low carbon economy. So, helping them to understand the opportunities and challenges posed by the sustainability agenda is another way in which we can support them in the coming years," said Diana Brightmore-Armour, ceo of Corporate Banking at Lloyds.

Lloyds is currently training up dozens of managers across its corporate and commercial divisions so they are better able to support customers to make the transition to a low carbon economy and energy efficiency.

Enigin Distributors in the UK, and worldwide, are helping many SMEs to develop their energy efficiency who are then benefiting financially through reduced energy costs.

Using Enigin PLC's energy efficiency solutions helps businesses to get control of their energy use, directing efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the most effective way, without hindering products and services but producing positive results.
