Enigin Update - Cyprus Urged to Save Energy to Lessen Power Shortages
CYPRUS has been suffering from power shortages over the summer so energy saving efforts need to continue for the foreseeable future.
Christos Christodoulides, Director of the Transmission System Operator, has called for care with electricity consumption, with a need for energy efficiency and saving.
Christodoulides revealed that currently power demand was limited to around 700 MW daily, thanks to moderate weather conditions and a holiday period, but power shortages have become a daily routine.
The problem is due to an explosion on July 11 at the Evaggelos Florakis, naval base, which damaged the neighbouring Vassiliko power station, the main power plant for Cyprus.
The blast was caused by what appear to be poorly stored munitions and killed 13 soldiers and fire-fighters, and creating a crater 60 metres in diameter and 15 metres deep.
Businesses and organisations throughout Cyprus are urged to improve their energy efficiency to reduce demand and lessen the results of power shortages, sauch as black and brown outages.
Enigin Distributors in Cyprus, and globally, are already helping local businesses and organisations to reduce their energy demand through utilising energy saving solutions from Enigin - leading to reduced energy demand, emissions and costs.
