Enigin Update - Croatia Needs Major Investment for Energy Efficiency Regulations
TO achieve the standards required by the European Union for membership Croatia will need to spend €6 billion in energy efficiency and renewables.
Nikola Ruzinski, the former Croatian state secretary for environmental protection and the country’s negotiator with the EU for Environmental Protection and Energy, said recently that Croatia will need an investment of billions of Euros achieve the EU’s environmental protection regulations.
The Croatian Environmental Ministry reveals that most of the funding will come from the EU’s structural and cohesion funds.

Croatia signed the treaty to become the EU's 28th member on 9 December 2011. The ratification process, by the Parliaments of all 27 EU member states, is expected to be concluded by the end of June 2013. The EU accession referendum is to be held on January 22, hence the interest in the costs of complying with EU energy efficiency and environmental regulations.
