Enigin Update - Canadian Legislation Boost for Enigin Distributors

LAST week the Canadian House of Commons approved legislation that commits the country to cut their greenhouse gas emissions by 25%, based on 1990 levels, by 2020 and 80% by 2050.

The New Democrat Climate Change Accountability Act is Canada’s only federal climate change legislation which will force the Canadian Government to set regulations to cut emissions and guarantee targets are met.

A move towards more evermore energy efficiency will now need to accelerate if Canada wish to meet their targets.

The new legislation opens up further opportunities for Enigin Distributors across Canada to be able to promote the energy saving solutions they are armed with to help commerce, industry and the public sector.

The legislation, which was introduced in 2008, requires the setting up of an independent review system to ensure that the Government fulfils its five year target plans.

Bruce Hyer, who introduced the bill in the House of Commons stated after its passing:

“Finally Canada will be on its way to having clear regulations and frameworks for fighting climate change. We can at least hold our heads up high in the international community.”

Environmental group Sierra Club Canada were delighted and commented that the Canadian targets will send a clear signal to the rest of the world that the country is determined to do its part to tackle climate change.

However, Sierra Club Canada warned that this bill by itself is “not the whole answer for Canada’s climate policy”, highlighting that it doesn’t outline plans or methods to meet the targets, as these are yet to be set by the Canadian Minister of the Environment.
