Enigin Update - Call for Enforcement of Energy Conservation Law

A SENIOR Chinese legislator has stressed that their Energy Conservation Law must be strictly enforced as the country seeks to build an energy-saving and environmental-friendly society.

Chen Zhili, vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, made the comments after she headed a team of legislators to inspect the enforcement of the Energy Conservation Law in the northern Shanxi Province this week.

Her message conveyed that the concept of energy saving, a recycling economy and emission reduction must be followed in decision making and implementation in all sectors, and the awareness of energy conservation shall be improved among the public.

However, she revealed that energy conservation within the construction industry remains a weak link in China's drive to save energy.

Chen also called for improved construction standards and policies and more use of energy-saving technology, material and equipment.

The Energy Conservation Law of China was enacted in 1997 and revised in 2007. It governs the administration of energy, the proper use of energy resources, promotion of energy-saving technology and protection of the environment.
