Enigin Update - Australian Winery Chills with Energy Saving

AN Australian winery has discovered a way to save AUS$110,000 annually by improving energy efficiency.

A report by Stephen Williams in the Newcastle Herald reported on the Tamburlaine winery in Pokolbin, New South Wales (NSW). The organic winery has not only saved so much of their energy costs but have done so with a payback period of less than two years.

The initial potential was highlighted when the winery participated in the NSW government’s Sustainability Advantage energy-saver programme, which included an energy audit. This revealed that refrigeration accounted for 75 percent of Tamburlaine’s electricity use.

The next step was to discover a more efficient way to run the refrigeration, leading to substantial energy savings.

Mark Davidson, Tamburlaine’s managing director, told the Herald: “The energy audit identified the problem and helped us break some old and wasteful energy habits. We have reduced our overall electricity use by 48 percent and our refrigeration energy use by 54 percent.”

Robyn Parker, NSW State Environment Minister, used this example to endorse the Sustainability Advantage programme.

“If NSW businesses save power and therefore money, that’s going to have long-term benefits for the business, consumers and the broader NSW economy,” Ms Parker told the Herald.

Enigin Distributor have the powerful and yet simple CUES (Chiller Unit Energy Saver) from Enigin, that has enabled many businesses to save energy and money very quickly from their refrigeration and chiller units.
