Enigin Update - 80 Percent of Europeans Say "Yes" to Binding Energy Saving target

Enigin Update - 80 Percent of Europeans Say

EU citizens want energy efficiency measures to reduce energy bills and make the the target of 20 percent energy savings by 2020 binding, according to a European Parliament survey.

The European Union (EU) set itself the three goals in 2007 of reducing greenhouse gases by 20 percent, raising energy efficiency by 20 percent and cutting energy consumption also by 20 percent, all by 2020, but, despite Parliament's efforts, these targets were not made binding upon Member States.

In the survey commissioned by the European Parliament, EU citizens were questioned face-to-face on the 20 percent reduction in energy use target. Of those who responded 80 percent felt that the target should be made mandatory. Of these, 33 percent answered "yes, certainly" and 48 percent said, "yes, probably".

Many of those approached felt that being able to measure daily energy consumption using advanced energy monitoring and meters would be a big advantage.

40 percent of respondents expected tax reductions to encourage energy saving, with 36 percent favouring competition among energy suppliers. They also agreed that simpler clearer energy bills would be a benefit as this would help them to monitor their energy consumption.

Enigin Plc's energy saving solutions are helping many European businesses and public sector organisations to gain control of their energy demand, manage their energy use across their facilities and even monitor their energy generation from localised renewable energy sources. These solutions are available exclusively through Enigin Distributors across Europe, and globally.
