Enigin Update - €70 Million Energy Efficiency Grants for Ukraine
THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) is to grant Ukraine €63 million for an energy-saving programme, and a further €7 million for energy efficiency technical assistance.
The grants were revealed in a preliminary report handed to Mykola Pashkevych, chairman of the National Agency of Ukraine for Efficient Use of Energy Resources (NAER), by Hans Rein of the EU’s Delegation to Ukraine.
During a meeting between Pashkevych and representatives of the EU Delegation and the World Bank Group the focus was on the influence of ongoing administrative reform in Ukraine and the further development of NAER.
Pashkevych reported that the State Inspectorate for Energy Conservation will be closed, with its main functions such as monitoring of energy efficiency projects, market research services and products in the field of energy efficiency, reducing energy intensity of goods and services, primarily the monopoly of production, promotion of energy efficient technologies and renewable energy will be transferred to NAER offices across the regions.
